Dinner at Chef & the Farmer

Join us for a rally developed primarily to support dining at the famous Chef & the Farmer restaurant, just across the Neuse River from the campground. This restaurant in eastern NC is made famous by the series on PBS called A Chef’s Life, now in Season 5. If you love the show, you’ll love this rally in Kinston!

This rally is a maverick rally in many respects. The only planned activity, optional of course, will be dinner at the Chef & the Farmer restaurant on Thursday night, April 5. Everything else is on your own, suggested eateries are below. The campground takes no reservations and has only 28 sites, not all of which may be suitable for our trailers. But it is a nice park with full hookups and it’s the only campground convenient to downtown Kinston. We should not have a problem during the week, this early in the season.

Kinston is also known for Mother Earth Brewing. There are free tours and the Tap Room opens at 4PM on Thursday, 1PM on Friday and Saturday. Always a nice place to visit.

Places to eat:

  • Chef & the Farmer: Made famous by PBS and maybe sparked farm-to-table in Eastern NC.
  • The Boiler Room: A short walk from Chef and the Farmer, and also owned by Vivian Howard, casual oysters and burgers. A must for another night.
  • Kings BBQ   More than just good Eastern NC Que, also has southern specialties.
  • Lovick’s Café: True diner food downtown
  • Queen Street Deli: Also downtown, good reviews
  • The usual collection of chain restaurants, Ruby Tuesday, Golden Corral, just not downtown.

Unique Shopping:

Hosts: Larry and Pam Brodsky

Group reservations at the Chef & the Farmer restaurant will be made as early as possible since the restaurant is so popular.
